Biography

Ya’at’eeh, shi ei Chelsey Begay yiniishye. Ta’neeszahnii nishli, Tl’aashchi’i bashishchiin. Tachii’nii ei dashicheii doo Ashiihi ei daschinali. English translation: Greetings, my name is Chelsey Begay. I am the Tangle Clan born for the Red Streak Bottom Clan. My grandfathers are the Red Running Into the Water Clan and the Salt People Clan. I am from the To’Hajiilee Navajo Reservation.

I received my Bachelors of Arts in Environmental Planning and Design with a minor in Native American Studies from the University of New Mexico School of Architecture and Planning. I served as an Administrative Assistant in the Dean’s Office of the School of Architecture and Planning before transitioning to the Indigenous Design + Planning Institute. I am interested in the recruitment and networking of iD+Pi.

I believe that programs in the School of Architecture and Planning, and institutes like iD+Pi have the greatest potential to reach out to students, of all ages, and instill unto them the ideas of stronger community, healthy land-use, richer culture and deep rooted traditions that are continually passed down.

My future goals include getting into the Master’s of Community and Regionalism program here at UNM, working with students as an academic advisor to help them along during those trying times in college, and potentially becoming a Tribal Planner for the Navajo Nation and my own reservation of To’Hajiilee.
